Everytime I get out of the car and touch the door, it sparks because of static electricity. I presume this is because of the cloth seats... Does anybody have a solution to this or is it something i'm going to have to get used to?

 

just gotta get used to it, its because of all the electrical current running through your car and a human being makes a good conductor of electricity.

 

Wear rubber gloves while driving

 

and you can also get a better grip on the wheel

 

i get that too. usually happens w/certain shoes..

 

hold something metal as you get out of the car...I usually keep my hand on the door or door frame, or touch the rear door as I swing around to get out.

you're building up static as you swing your legs/azz...touching the metal grounds you. Now it's an unconscious habit and I never get shocked.

 

Its the shoes.

 

Touch everything with the tip of your key, and it should discharge to it, not you..

Man that would get annoying, having to touch your door with your key everytime you get out.

 

Not to mention, after a few years, you'd have little nicks and chips all over your door..

 

that happen to me almost everytime i exit my max. but you know what it ain't gonna kill you so i don't worry about it. but yeah if you don't wanna have it happen wear a body condom.

make sure you touch the car before you pump gas, static fires suck.

 

thank god for my leather interior...my dad's Montero is a different story...everytime i get out I get zapped like no tomorrow.

 

cloth seats + very low humidity here in utah = maximaTazer heck im so used to being shocked every flipppin time i get out . Im trying to figure out how to get a ciggy lit when exiting.

 

i had this very problemo with leather seats in a bonneville. it sucked.

i don't recall which professor did i hear this from, but he says when there is a sudden weather change from hot to cold, this statics will be more evident. basically he says that the colder it gets, the more prone we are to static electricity coming outta the car.

 

That's because the colder the temperature is, the less humidity is in the air. Dryer air = better spark.
