Pearl White Matching Question
Pearl White Matching Question
Alright. Well my car is going into the body shop this fri to get its front end and rear end conversion. The car color is pearl white. I love the color but i was just wondering will my bumpers match close enough to m body color if painted properly. The guy is using PPG paint, he said its the best stuff in the market. What do you guys think....will it match close enough?
well i mean i just dont want it to be a totaly different shade of white. He said it will match very close. And i will only be able to tell a slight difference when up close against the car.
i had my bumper painted after an accident, and the paint matches the rest of the car just fine. at IMO, im partially color blind. I dunno if pearl white is any different, but you shouldnt have anything to worry about.
I have a auto repair shop and in the same building my partner has a body shop. So I been around this kind of problem often. Each color code has variances which mean there is 2 to some times 6 differant formulas to make the same color. It's really a shade differance. And he also has a PPG paint mixer. So it's really up to the painter making the color if the color is correct. and yes pearl is one of the hardest to match.
it can be done and can match so well you'd never be able to tell, but he could also easily mess it up. they sometimes get lucky with it, but i'd have them blend the paint to your fenders. i'm having this done as soon as the rest of my insurance money comes in. goodluck and keep us updated
if your body shop guy is using a blendign technique then you might have a good shot at a good matchup. My bumpers were painted a few years back and the rear was done using a blending technique, it came out pretty good.
if you look at the pic below, it was some time after i had the paint done, if you notice the front, it was a bumper that i picked up already painted, you can see the partial mismatch in the picture. the back however looks to be a good match. of coure angles and lighting will also affect the way it appears.

The condition of you paint is not the only thing that could cause a problem. As in my prior post there are variances in colors. Even though the color code is xxx there is 5 differant types of xxx. And it being a pearl you may have to blend. trust me it will make all the differance.

right on the money.
i picked this bumper up. It fit perfect but it has a slight different shade of white. It seems like the bumper has a hint of yellow in it. My friend thinks he can work on it and buff it all out. It seems like the car that it was on was never taken care of, so my friend said he will clay it and then go at it with his high speed buffer
Most paint used by these body shops is formula-based and is computerized as far as I know. There is much less to be concerned about regarding colors matching than there was years ago.
My car is black emerald and I have had the paint match perfectly. I couldn't tell any difference even on a bright, sunny day.

looks like you got a bumper off a 99 Maxima. the 99 white color is different then he 95-98 QN0 Color. The 99 is color code QT1, its called Pearl White Tri-coat, where as the previous 4th gens are arctic Pearl white, QN0. the QT1 has got a bit if yellowish in it. it looks like thats what you go there judgin from that picture.
yea thats what it seems like. The guy i got it from was like its QNO, and crap. The guy that is going to paint it has done many pearl white cars. He has even done his own maxima. I guess i'll have to wait and c till i get my car back on sat.

Exactly. Thats NOT the QNO paint code.
In all reality, unless they blend the in with the fenders, it will not match up 100%.
But if they are indeed a reputable shop, they can get real close. I have yet to see a pearl white Maxima with bumpers that matched perfectly aflter being painted.
Their always just a bit off.
Pearl is definitely hard to match. The shop blended my fenders when they did my front conversion and you can hardly tell the transition. However, they gave me some touch up paint and I used it on some scratches on the rear and you can definitely tell the difference in color. The original pearl has faded over time and the new paint is much brighter. I'm going to polish my paint and wax the whole car when I have some free time and it'll hopefully look less obvious. Nonetheless, it'll come down to how good your painter is. I'm sure they can custom blend your paint a bit to better match your existing paint, because not all cars are showroom condition and paint codes are used as a reference point. Good Luck.
I remember buying touch up paint for my bumper from the Nissan dealer. They sold me 2 bottles - a white base and the pearl paint. I have the original paint job and the touch up didn't even blend in as good.
Good luck with yours. Please show us a picture of the finished product. I'm not repainting mine until I get a Stillen kit.
