Manual to Auto swap?

I know the auto to manual swap is possible, but can it be done the other way around, keeping in mind that you put in an auto ECU....wouldnt it be the same steps, just reversed? Or am i missing something here....

Thanks.

That would be much more difficult. The harness of a 5Spd does not have the TCM stuff in it. The MT doesn't need that crap so its just left alone or pulled out for weight during the swap. Sadly the whole harness is one piece. I think to make this work, unless you did something like a level 10 with controller box, a whole new harness would have to be put in and that would be an absolute b!tch. Why?

well, i'm not planning on doing this, but i just wondered if it was in the realm of possibility, I am switching my auto to 5spd in the summer, and I wanted to know if you could switch it over to auto again....this is what happens when you're up late at night, random thoughts...

If you went auto to 5spd, you could go back to auto somewhat easily, as long as you didn't cut anything. If you had a 5spd originally, switching to auto would be complicated x 1,000,000. When I did the swap, I cut the cable from the auto shifter to the tranny, which would be hard to replace.

Same. That was the first thing that came to mind. I ripped the shreds out of all the shifter stuff and linkage to get it all out. That would be very hard to run a new cable and position all the shifter position switches correctly. Also, I pulled the TCM and cut the harness as far back as I could. That would require lots of soitering in a tight place or a whole new harness. But if you carefully removed everything it wouldn't be hard to go back. The only irreversable thing would be the hole in the firewall for the master.
