gargle sound comming from the engine...HeLp plz...
hey guys...sitting in my car I can hear something of a rattle sound in the engine bay, I might add pretty loud, so I lift the hood and check the oil which is fine...when I rev the throttle cable, its like a high pitch gargling, almost sounds nasty like the engine its choking...the sound gets faster as I rev the rpms, then as the rpm's go down, it still gargles but slower and softer-its comming from the intake manifold and throttle body area...its hard to tell EXACTLY where the sound is comming from...not sure if its something inside the engine or outside ... info to be known: 98, auto, just did 90k service, all the main. is done that I can think of-I have an evap code and a 1448 code, is also not the timing chain tensioner....any help from you maxima buffs is greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for your input

re: clatter noise
This clatter gurgling noise is quite common to high milage 4th Gens, it is caused by EGR Back Pressure Transducer Valve which is located right next to EGR valve ( it is a royal PITA to replace btw )
let me guess - the noise goes away once the engine is warmed up - right?
and it is mostly noticable in cold weather?
I've had this noise for past 45k and i just learned to live with it , my ECU never threw any codes associated with EGR system ,
so if it aint broke , don't mess with it !!!!

The only moving engine parts around your intake manifold are the camshafts and valves. It might just be a vacuum leak. Its not something that can really be diagnosed online.
I know the altimas have a plastic timing chain guide that melts and causes a gurgling noise. but on the other side of the engine.

nick and PAREDLINE thank you so much for your informative input...this is definitely gonna be tough to diagnose...im gonna look into both ideas as for what the sound is.... another thing-there is no power loss
