Horse power and automatics

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knows about how much hp our automatics can take. I have a 99 and I want to do some upgrades to increase hp. I wonder how much the autos can take without some kind of an upgrade. And if they can't take much what are some things that I can do.

I'm going to ball park a figure of about 230fwhp before you'll really need to upgrade the tranny.

but such a number is not easilly reachable with bolt-ons to see such a number forced induction would be needed (except for vq35 swap in which you should do the 6 speed at that point.) so if you were to go FI a tranny upgrade is very much needed or destruction would occur.

I'm not to familiar with auto upgrades but I believe VB mod is the best way of adding strength to the tranny, that and cryo treading.

Thanks a lot. I don't think that I am going to go with anything heavy. Probably and intake exhuast system and a Y pipe. I don't think I'll go that far. I rememger hearing that the j30 had all kinds of problems with thier gearboxes and earlier maximas used to overpower them too. So I didn't want to add power and then blow out my tranny in a few days.
