Need YOUR input on next set of Springs (Vogtland)
OK. I've been ridding on Sprints w/ AGXs for almost 2 years now and I guess age is catching up to me where I now wanting a bit more plush of a ride, but I am still reluctant to give up a nice drop. I've been debating for a while and finally decided to move on to a new setup.
My primary choice is the Vogtland but b/c there is little to no feedback (I can't search), I figure I ask you guys (and gals) if any of you have experience with them in regards to how they *feel on the road and how they handle. Best to compare it with your previous stock ride or that of another car that can easily relate too (i.e. Carmy like or something along this line). I am really curious about Vogtland b/c they are made in German (like H&R), seem to have a good rep in the Racing industry (like H&R), and most importantly seem to have a lower ride than H&R! I may also consider something else, but H&R's are prob not for me.
Thanks in advance for your feedbacks!

may i be the 1st one to say Vogtlang kick freakin major butt.. specially on highway.. the bounce is good on highway where you go on those wavy roads.. and cornering is sexy as heck... and im ussing the kyb gr2.. so if u get better shocks all the better.. also if u notice the votgland spriings seem to be as long as the stock srping only there coiled closer together. aside from the fruity purpleish color.. there sexy i love mine..ill post pics later for you of the spings.. and tmmrw of the dop on my infi... even the mechanic at my shop was suprised at the ride.. he thought it was going to be like a rock but its not... and NO SCRATCHING... i havnt scarathed anything anywhere.. specially sidewalk enterences...

HomerMAC- got any pics of the drop?? I would love to seem some close-ups. What other setup have you ridden on and how would you compare them? Also, how well do the Vogtlands handle NY streets?
naijai- are you saying Vogtland and H&R are parent/sister companies? Do you know this for a fact or is it an assumption? Have you had any experience with Vogtlands?
Thx

Don't go with Vogtland if you're looking for a plusher ride
I've been riding on Vogtland springs for the last 8 months or so, and I'd compare them to the Eibach's I used to have. Pretty stiff springs, great handling, but not as comfortable as the H&R's. They ended up dropping my ride lower than advertised, once they settled. The final drop was a bit lower than the Eibach's. I'm going to replace these springs in a few months, as the ride gets pretty rough come winter.

Low drop means less suspension travel.
The more suspension travel you take away, the worse your car rides over bumps.
A spring that drops you low is progressively wound pretty firm so as not to make you bottom out when you hit larger bumps, which leads to a harsh ride.
If you want a smoother ride, you have to come up a bit.
The best riding lowered sport setup you can install in a Maxiam is the H&R/Illumina combination. Nothing comes close to the ride comfort and handling combination of that setup.

Let me know if you want to sell them b/c I am curious to try them.
What do you plan on replacing them with and what else have you ridden on?
EDIT: Also, when I said plusher, I meant more so than the Sprints I am currently running which is pretty much anything and everything out there for the Max/I Simply trying to illustrate how I am reluctant to give up the Sprints.

Thanks for recommendations for other brands, but I'm still looking for more feedback from people who have or had used Vogtlands. From what I've read online for a Mustang, A4, and BMW, has been positive but no info for the Max/I. Thought not directly realted, Vogtland and KONI are partners in some of their products, which has to be good to some degree. Also note that Vogtland have been around since 1908, but this does not imply it manufactures good motor sport springs. The fact that they didn't expand to the US until 2001 maybe why they are so unknown, but just being here for a few years they manager to contract a few NASCAR teams should also mean something (The most notable to me is Roush Racing and Penske Racing South). I can not find crediable feedback justifying why Vogtlands are bad except people just saying it's bad, but I tend to believe these people are only reiterating hearsay so I take it with a grain of salt unless they state that had experience with them. I would go with a full coilover setup but money is an issue.

Not sure how credible this article is but refer to this paragraph...
"Vogtland also happens to build springs for some of Koni's suspension kits and uses Koni dampers in some of its own kits"

S-Techs + Tokicos?
My suspension is totally stock right now, but I am planning on S-Techs from e-bay at $119+shipping for the drop mainly. But not sure about struts. (*Sorry to piggyback on this thread*) Looking at Tokico HP Blues vs. Tokico Illuminas. Is the adjustability worth it? Can anyone help decide? Anyone know a good price?

I'm sorry to tag something diferent onto this thread, butI'm not able to post yet. I need to find out two things.
1. I found a company on line in San Fran that sells a suspension kit that uses the Tokico Blues (I forget what springs). The price is right at about $450. Any thoughts or experience with this kit? Car is primary street use with some track days. I already have track experience so I don't want 300 lb springs or a slammed ride...(1996 MAx SE)
2. I have a set of KYB GR2's for a Nissan 240SX. Is there anyway to find out these could be used on the Maxima? I had downloaded a KYB database a while back, but couldn't make sense of it....
Thanks for your time.

abci30 - Did you have other choices and why did you go with Vogtland? What shocks are you riding with and for how long? How do you like the ride on Philly roads? Sorry about all the questions, but I would much appreciate your feedback.

i know it wasnt direceted to me but.
the springs i got cause i read a few reviews . with the mustangs and the nascar stuff.. then it sealed it.
i like the ride except here in NY they dont really tar the overpasses and brideges all the time.. so u hit nice bumps where the over pass and the acutal ground meet is lik e ahump and i feel those.. specially at like 70 ouch.. but other than that its pretty nice..
also i hate 17" rims with meaty tires... and i have 45psi front and 40 in the back.. so its sort of a cushioned ride.. its not bad.. however i dont really recomend lowpro tires..

i went with them because of the reviews on the illumina set up. I was thinking of H&Rs and the tech-h. i wanted more of a drop than the h&rs and the tech-h just came out not too many people had them. i have them paired with the illumina struts i think i have them set at 3 front and back right now. The ride is pretty good but bumps can get a bit rough at times. All you got to do is avoid big holes and you should be fine.
