A/C problem

About 2 months ago I picked up a used 97 SE with 126K on it. The A/C didn't get cold when it got above 70 degrees here..so I decided to try and fix it. The compressor kicks on without a problem. So i went and bought some R-134a refrigerant and a guage. Hooked up the gauge and just as I suspected....there was no pressure in the line. I hooked up the can and let her rip and it filled right up and held at about 28psi, so I don't think there's any leaks. Drove the car around for a while with the A/C on full...and it never even got remotely cooler. Any ideas before I head to a shop??
