Power Steering Pump Replacement

Does anybody have any suggestions as to the easiest way to replace the pump?

Mine has been leaking (messy) for awhile and I finally bought a rebuilt one. Looks like a pain in the butt due to the fact that there is simply no room to get in there.

I'm thinking about removing the axle to gain some space to get my hands in there.

Any help is appreciated......

(I'm sure there are some threads here somewhere, but without search....)

Man looks like no one cares... guess this doesn't happen very often, but I have been thinking of replaing mine because the previous owner had a busted ps hose so it now squeals (once the fluid leaks out the squealing starts even if you replace the fluid)

i've one this before when changing the timing chain. Your best bet is to remove the passenger tire and all splash shields, then remove the exhaust pipe front and back and un-do it at the catalytic converter(very hard to do...I just got a friend and removed the WHOLE thing back to the muffler). Use some PB blaster to loosen up the 3 rusted nuts on each side...you WILL need a wobbly joint for this...be careful not to bend that flex pipe too much or it will break which means $$$. There should be a wierd bolt head way up there on the back of the pump that you gotta loosen and remove(has a washer be careful), then on the front of the pump, loosen the "block bolt" going through the bracket slider block, remove the bracket from the timing chain cover. and then you gotta loosen the thing called a "banjo bolt". You will need new copper washers that help seal it (could be your original problem or a clamp is loose on a hose which was my case). Pick up a Haynes manual, has pictures and everything.

Good luck!

It took me a while to search for it. You might also want to buy a haynes manual or something.
