Can oil overfill cause a blue smoke at start up?

I did an oil change yesterday. This morning a I got a puff of blue smoke at startup. What gives? I've checked the level and the oil is overfilled - but the engine was hot so I need to wait for it to cool down.

Do you think the over fill is causing this? Or should I go with heavier oil next time?

Very possible, have you noticed this "puff of blue smoke" before? By how much did you overfill it? You want to check your oil when it is @ running temp due to fluids expanding when they're hot.
Do not use heavier oil!! It will do more bad than good!

No, I haven't noticed that before. I think they overfilled it by at least half a quart to a quart. The oil level is about an inch above the H mark

It only did it at the start up and I did a few shart throttle dumps once the engine was warm and it didn't show anything.
