eBay Mufflers

Hello, I'm just curious to hear your stories about the mufflers sold on eBay. You know the cheap ones, the shipping cost way more than the item. Wondering what you guys have to say about them. Are they POS? Anything wrong with them? Installation problems? Yes, and I have my flame hat on. But, don't be too rough...

Actualy I had one on for my first muffler not actaully that bad for the money. I like the sound and it was like 3 1/2 round so it fit in the hole perfectly. Here's a pic.

Thanks for the reply, do you happen to have any sound/video clips of it? And how did you install it? I dont think the auctions come with hangers.

They don't come with hangers unless specified.
You have to take it to a muffler shop to weld on the hangers.

My bro had one on his 3rd gen and it sounded really nice. Deep and not ricey at all. I think as long as you have a big resonator any muffler would sound ok.

I thought that would be my only choice. Thanks for the reply.

Would the stock resonator be okay? If there is even a factory resonator?

If I do end up getting an eBay muffler, I don't want it to sound queer. A deep sound is alright. I just want something that looks nice. My stock muffler is making me mad and it's getting rusty.

I got my Magnaflow from an ebay/store seller for $100 shipped; I love the look and the sound, is the 4 inches diameter tip, 7 inches long tip. I paid $75 for installation at Meineke. But seems like most of muffler at ebay are really cheap quality and sound really loud and horrible; so try to get a brand name. Mine was about $130-150 at any other place.

At least this muffler seems to be straight-thru which is best for performance. The only concern, like others have brought out, is the rust issue and the kind of material the muffler is made out of. Straight-thru mufflers will naturally be louder than chambered once.

I find the "oval" type mufflers of ebay have a lesser chance of having a raspy/ricey tone from my experience. but the mid pipe "b-pipe" and the muffler doesn't really give you much of performance boost... more of butt dyno

It's too good to be true to see eBay sellers advertise these mufflers, made from high quality T-304 stainless steel, at a very low price. For the price they are selling them for, it seems like a gimmick. Also, you can't tell if they are chambered or straight-thru. Asking the sellers is probably worthless because they will tell you anything so that they can sell you their product.

Thanks for the replies. I still would like a link to a Magnaflow muffler that would be compatible with a 96 Maxima. Thanks...

Apexi, Magnaflow, Dynomax, and Flowmaster are considered universal mufflers. They can be made to fit any vehicle as long as the inlet diameter matches the exhaust pipe on your car. The thing to consider is if you are planning on replacing the B-pipe with a performance or custom type, usually bigger in diameter. Then you need to take that into consideration for your muffler.

Here's the Magnaflow site: http://www.magnaflow.com/01home.asp .

they probably won't come with ne necessary hardware, i wouldn't spend the money on an ebay muffler or exhaust part unless it was direct from a company

I truly believe in you get what you pay for. There is a reason that they go for so cheap. Often, they will rust within a few months and then look really nasty. Spend the money on a decent muffler.

Okay there are so many choices of Magnaflow mufflers. Which one should I get? HAHA

Edit: UGH yea they are like 200 bucks. I'm not getting one. Maybe I should just put a chrome tip on my stock muffler for now.

The two that probably look good are 14827 and 14829. Either one is about $110 shipped. One is single wall (louder) the other is double wall which is quieter. I heard 14829 is better, has a nice tone to it and not really loud. I was considering one of these but I'm swaying back and forth between it and an Otto Racing muffler which is $50 cheaper. I have an Otto racing round muffler and want an oval one instead. The one I have has a nice deep tone to it, you can barely hear it though unless the windows are down and going at less than 2000 rpms.
