I would like to replace the shifter *** and cut the shifter handle down about an inch or so on my 97 max SE. Has anyone done this or any recomendations on how to do this.

Also my BOSE system tape part thinks there is a tape in the deck and starts to play everytime I start my car. How do I make this stopand fix it.

Cutting the shifter won't make the actual throw any shorter but it won't be like shifting a truck anymore either. Having said that, I have cut my stock shifter (I figured if that really sucked I would just purchase a STS) about 2 inches and replaced the worn **** for a Momo ****.
It is all cosmetic but I like it better. You don't need the threads on the original stalk for Momo ***** since they provide screws to hold the **** on.
The least messiest way is to remove the original ****, this requires a little effort, and push a small white garbage bag over the stalk and cover the area you want to keep debris free. The white bag allows you to see the metal shards once you take the hacksaw to the stalk. After you are done hacking through the stalk, smooth it out with a metal file. Enjoy
