Steering Rack Boot?

i'm doing my axels this weekend. my steering rack boot is ripped and i need to replace it. I was thinking of just using a zip up boot instead of buying the correct replacement boot.
how hard is it to replace the steering rack boot? any special tools needed?
would a zip up type boot work? and how well?
thanks in advnace guys!

It's easy, but you'll need a wire cutter so to sneak in and clip off the old boot, and you'll need a Pitman Arm puller or Tie Rod popper to remove/install the new boot. Do not use a picklefork on the tie rod or else you'll ruin its boot.
