When Tinting the car ....

I wish I had mine tinted, its harsh sometimes to ride with the sun shade open when the roof is tilted. If black tint was a factor in making it crack, why not tint it with semi reflective or go with a lighter grade tint, it doesn't have to be 5% on it.

Was speaking to an officer this morning and he was telling me that 35%+ was legal in ny. Is this true?
Do 35 and 20, not 50. Too drastic. Might as well not do the fronts at all then. I personally wouldn't recommend doing a mix around the car as far as sides and rear goes, ie. 20/5 or 5/20 or 50/20 etc.
I have 20% all around with 5% on the Sunroof, 35% on the windshield. No complaints. I love my setup. At first I regretted the 20% SO MUCH, but now I love it with the Sunroof and Windshield tinted as well. I personally wouldn't go any other way.

See the problem is that my parents wont allow me to have anything illegal on the car. The legal in Ohio is 50% on front windows, and any % from there back. I heard the tickets were pretty expensive for tint also. Got any ideas?
rome06, same here 5% all around and black interior, in sunlight you cant see anything inside, as for the sunroof, its kinda pointless and as said before when cops are nearby its quick to open the visor to let some light in make it seem less drastic...

my sunroof is 15%. pretty dark looking and matches my sides at 5%, but a little lighter so i can "see" through it. in salt lake we get summers at like 100-110 for days straight and i never had mine break or crack, so no worries there. as far as to tint or not to tint- like everyone said its up to you, if you wanna pay, but i dont see why not. it blocks so much sunlight being on top, of coarse you can always close the shade i usually do anyway, but sometimes its nice to just have the tint. it doesn't look too dark either. yeah its a big diff from stock, but you get used to it- if you want something more clear get mirror tint. its like one-way mirror, almost clear looking out but impossible to see in. not very legal in most states though, but not as noticably illegal as 5% imo
i left my sunroof untinted, just so if i have my windows up and i roll by a cop, it lets a little more light into the car and takes a lil bit away from the tint on my front windows. dont tint it, its not really worth it. my moms car has it and u dont even notice.

I always get confused about whats darker. What does the %-age mean?
Higher the %, lighter the tint?
pics please if available....
The percentage stands for the amount of light that can be transmitted. Therefore, the lower the percentage, the less amount of light transmitted, and the darker the tint. 35% is a lightly dark tint, noticeable, but still able to see inside during the daytime. 20% is pretty dark, a common choice with a lot of cars, but you can still see inside if you are close to the car. 5% is pretty much a presidential tint, it is almost impossible to see into the car unless your eyes are against it with you hands covering the outside light.

this one is my old max, with 5% on the back and rear sides, 20% on the front two, and 35% on the windshield

I did 35% all around because tinter guy told me if going darker will be back with a ticket; it came up very light for my taste close to useless; I just tinted the sunroof 20% for $25 as per there was so much light coming in while driving with it raised/tilted. 20% is the best choice as per you can still see thru it but sunlight doesn't bother you at all. 5% is like not having sunroof. If I has extra money will redo it 20% all around. I didn't know you are allow to tint windshield at all; if legal will do it 35%, but so afraid about tickets, got 3 in a month $500; once you get pull over for something they give you an extra ticket for tinting.
As per tinted sunroof crack that is incorrect as per most of cars come witth tinted sunroof and hardly crack; had 89 accord and 92 accord and never cracked.
My advise: when you see cops around you at day time roll your front windows right away, so they do not see tint and when they pull you over specially at night roll 4 of them down.

imo not tinting the sunroof is like not tiniting one of the side windows, but doin everything else. it will look very stupid.when i was getting my car done, my friend ran out of 5% and still had the sunroof left, i couldn't satnd how it looked untinted, so i had him do 15% as i said before. it will keep your car cooler in the summer and look mad hot. what more could you want. and mosy places have no laws regualting the darkness on them so its free range. get it done. thank me later

. I have a very hard time believing that. They prob. smashed their sunroof somehow and tried to blame your tint job
