I like to buy Sunoco 93 at a station in a bad neighborhood, because it sells super for 7 cents less than the unbranded stations, and only 12 cents more than 87. Many people seem to be put-off by the bulletproof glass and shell casings in the parking lot, but I don't mind. Just don't get to that neighborhood very often.
Anyway, I managed to squeeze in 16.4 gal, so I only had 2.1 left. And yes, unfortunately, it screwed up my fuel sending unit!!! Now it only registers 7/8 full when completely full. It's amazing how these problems with Nissan are only a minor annoyance. But when the car was new, I was really miffed that the needle did that. 3 sending units later, I don't care but in a way think it's funny.

That sucks that you screwed up your sending unit.

Awhile back someone said they replaced a couple parts on their car and they immediately got better gas mileage. I can't find the thread but I'd like to know, if anyone knows. I get like freakin 200 to 250 to my tank.

I live in houston so yeah there's a crappload of traffic. Not only that but sometime me and my gf "chill" in my car for awhile and my car is just running in park, I suppose a couple of hours of that wastes a bit of gas. And I take back 200, its more like 250. Plus, I gas it a lot at green lights and stuff. Does this justify? Or are you still appalled and disgusted

Yea 395miles for 16.4 gallons equals out to 24mpg. My last trip I did 292 miles on 9.95 gallons, which is roughly 29mpg, that was with mostly highway and some city driving. Helped that I had changed the fuel filter and had changed the oil before that trip.

Amazing would be for the price of gas to not go up another 10 cents a gallon this week. Oil flirted with prices of a barrel below $50 this week, yet gas still went up.

I audited your numbers (I'm an **** accountant), the above conversion is actually 410.1 miles on 15.84 US gallons. For 60% highway, 40% city, that's not too bad. How fast was the highway driving - must have been 70 mph (112 kmh) or less.

You should have saved the money on the y-pipe, S103100F, and got your car running properly. That's the worst mileage I've seen out of all the gas mileage threads I've noticed on this board. I can see you live in New York city, but that is absolutely horrendous fuel economy.

i know what thread u are talkin about... what they did is they used a 300zx fuel filter and a k&n filter witha hacked air box. i drive my car hard always gasing it in city driving conditions and i get 310- 320 miles on average. when i drive from brownsville to houston i get 390 miles exactly everytime and i usually take it at 80-90mph. chillin what part of houston are u from....

I get anywhere from 23-33 mpg all depends how i drive. My car is a 97 with 136500 miles and i dont think age nor mileage has squat to do with it. I've driven 300 miles so far on this tank and the needle is right on the middle line. Usually if i drive hard i get 200 miles up to this point so I know the way you drive has ALOT to do with how the car drinks or sips gas.

I don't think age has a great deal to do with fuel economy either. I believe its more dependent on: speed, tire inflation, wind resistance to some extent (headwind vs tailwind on a long trip), and the conditon of oil, fuel filter/injectors, spark plugs, air filter, coils etc. Even on a higher mileage vehicle, if the foregoing parts were newer, fuel economy should be pretty decent.

Maybe age doesn't have anything to do with it, I can't be sure because my car will never do that Montreal trip again to see. Besides tail and head winds, I have a hunch that each direction of a trip involves different amounts of downhill and uphill driving, because it always used less fuel coming back from Montreal than going. The same is now true of Philadelphia to Connecticut, always gets better mileage on the way back. But for whatever reason, in the last 2 years I have never been able to best 28 mpg, whereas it was easy when the car were in its first 4 years of life.

I'll never know what the car can do today because it will never make that trip again. But like I said, it's never broken 28 mpg in years, but can do 28 from NYC back to Philly. Less on the way up.
For 28 mpg I'd rather be driving the C6 with the LS2 motor--400 hp. Amazing what the old pushrods and 2-valves are still capable of!

Heres an interesting finding.... I got 30mpg on my way back from a trip last weekend (90% highway 10% city), and now when I just filled up again, I found myself getting 20mpg (80% city 20% highway). I think I have an exhaust leak near my rear header (possibly EGR), could that decrease the effiency in mpg? I hit WOT only a couple times this week, ive been babying a bit lately around town.
EDIT: Nevermind, factory specs is 21/28, so im doing better in the hwy catagory and a little worse in the city.

As far as the the miles go I am pretty sure it is kilometers times .625 - unless you don't have 5280 feet in a mile. And you are right on the speed - only brief moments above 70 mph - usually at full throttle!

Not to be **** (but I am), use 3.785 litres per US gallon and 0.621 miles per kilometre. These are the recognized conversion factors. When in doubt, refer to page 0-19 in the Haynes manual for a comprehensive list of conversion factors covering such areas as: length, volume, mass, force, pressure, torque, vacuum, power, velocity, fuel consumption and temperature.
There will be a quiz on Tuesday, lol!
