LED Gauge Bulb Question

You don't have 194 bulbs in your gauges so why are you looking at 194 LEDs?

2 MaXiMuS 4 you actually have bulb # 74 there tiny bulbs only way to get the 194 in there is too

This is a write up on how to install bulb number 194 into your 98-99 maxima.
If you have a 95-97 maxima, then it is a simple plug and play... not modding needed. Ok, well let’s get to it. It is fairly simple to do, but it can get annoying.
First, get to your gauges, and pull the whole thing out of the car. Bring it inside so it is simpler to work on. Next, take off the clear plastic cover by UN snapping the plastic clips that snap into the black gauge Bessel. Now, take the black Bessel off by un-snapping it from the back of the gauge cluster.
You should now be left with just the gauges with nothing protecting the needles. Start unscrewing each gauge and place it aside for now. DO NOT REMOVE THE MAIN SPEEDOMITER!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Now, once everything is removed, look where the factory lights are and then look at the back and twist the black nubs and pull them out. You should see the small lights attached to them. Make sure you are taking out the correct light bulbs! Then, once all five of them are out, you need to take out your dremel.

***be very careful with this step!!***

Now, use the dremel on the open holes and make them bigger until the 194 bulb will slide through. Once you have done that on all of them, you can put your dremel away. Now, get some sand paper, and scuff up the copper power rings so the solder will stick to them.

Next, get your bulbs and bend the metal connectors so they are sticking up sideways. (Like a helicopter.) Now place them in the widened holes you just made, and make sure the bulb's connectors are touching the copper. Solder them on very strongly, for that will be the only thing holding them in place. Do this for all 5. Now put everything back together and plug them in! MAKE SURE YOU PLUG YOUR DIMMER SWITCH BACK IN BEFORE TESTING, UTHER WISE THEY WILL NOT WORK!

I had the single LED per bulb 194's, then went with the 4 Led per bulb (currently in cluster) I now have the 6 LED per bulb but I haven't installed them yet, I'll post pics when I do. On my domain is the comparsion between the single and the 4Led, but as you know pics don't always do it justice, I'm going to 6 LED as they fit with no mods required and I want to use the 4LED's in other locations to replace the singles.

Yes, there are hot spots not overly concerning but they are there, we'll see what the 6LED's per bulb bring! The Hot spots in my triple Gauge pod are more obvious, with the single Blue Led I adapted so I might throw the 4LED's per bulb in there when I remove them from my gauge cluster.

Check out my domain and look at the pics with my triple gauge cluster, you'll see concentrated area's where the light is brighter= hot spots

Aaaah...I see. Yours look great!! I want blue LED's too. How do I find out what bulbs I need for my 99? I've got an ES model (like the SE).

Oh...duh! So if I understand this right, the 99's have #74 bulbs, not 194's? Sorry, I find this all confusing! I'll probably have to pay somebody to do this for me so I don't mess it up! Are there any advantage to having 194's?

okay if you plan on doing just your gauges to light up that will be 4 signals take another 2 and whatever else you wanna do just remember that some of these bulbs have a red filment on the piece witch makes it light up red so be careful where you put bulbs iknow i have the #74 blue bulbs from super bright leds for my signals and they light up fine with a blue no hint of green
