Thought this thread needed an adult post.
1) Changing the muffler will not result in a significant HP gain (MAYBE 1 HP, most likely not measureable). Only change it if you are looking for better sound or better looks. If it's got a hole in it, by all means change it though!
2) You can buy a high-flow catalytic converter if you like (about $100 from warpspeed), but again, the performance gain will be negligible (less than one HP). It has been shown that removing the catalytic converter COMPLETELY and replacing it with a straight pipe shows no measurable gains over the stock cat converter. So the high flow will show even less gains than that!
3) It is well documented that the y-pipe gives you 90% of all the gains you will ever get from the exhaust system (unless you are turbo-charged or super-charged). A b-pipe and air-intake will get you the other 10%, but that's a lot of money for a small extra gain. Plus the air-intake will make your car much louder - a plus or a minus depending on your personality.
4) I have the y-pipe, b-pipe, high speed cat, and muffler. My exhaust system was pretty rusted out so it paid to replace most of those parts. The high speed cat was purely frivolous though. Probably a waste of money. If your exhaust is in okay shape, just replace the y-pipe.
