The real tear down.....Zack342's I30

As a follow up to http://www.forums.maxima.org/showthr...hlight=zack342
and http://www.forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=395351.

I basically just stripped the motor down. Its still a long block so I dont know the condition of the combustion chamber, valves, and what not. When I removed the lower oil pan many parts fell out with it.
Every thing you see there (minus the drain plug) fell out of the motor. Most of it is the mains, connecting rods, and upper oil pan. There are a few snap rings, which I don't know where they came from.

Thats a hole in the upper oil pan, most likely made by the conecting rod that Zack pulled out. I thought that was the only broken rod, but there was another.

You can see the extensive damage this low end took.

Cylendars 1 and 2 are compleatly screwed. The rod of one got smashed by the bearing cap of the other. Its wedged in the crank. Both pistons are busted off, one with the wrist pin torn out and the other with half a rod still attached. This really massed up the crank and then tore apart the mains.

The rear main seal was leaking. It had been replaced within the past 2 years. You can see the orange RTV gasket material, and Zack has the receipet for the work done.

Also the knock sensor was compleatly melted. Yikes!

I think the valve train looks ok but im not sure, some of you engine experts can tell for sure.

Since the KS is melted I think the engine over heated.... the rear main seal was leaking so maybe he ran low on oil, spun a bearing and the rest is history.

time to take off the heads and pull out the crank. That block is toasted. I think it was due to the person fixing the rear main seal. I have a feeling they left something in there or loosen up a few bolts. Thats just silly sick. I would cry if my motor took that damage.

That motor is ruined. Look how varnished the bottom end looks. Oil never changed, ran low on oil, ran hot etc... Also the cams "might" look okay. But if the motor still ran for a bit, the oil pickup tube might have circ'd oil up into the heads. If that's the case, it might have scratched up one or more of the cam journals. Remove and take a really close look if you feel like it.

yea i will do that. I am hoping the heads are good. I didnt see any obvious marks, some discoloration though. The lifters looked good where they touch the lobes, but the sides of them look worn. again Im no expert.
