Can someone give me a quick explanation of what the EGR does for our car? Someone told me to clean mine if it's never been done before, I have no clue what that entails. I have even seen a few 4th genners remove their EGR completely? Exhaust gas Recirculator? Help an EGR noob out

 

the EGR does what its name says, it recirculates exhaust gas back into the intake manifold to reburn it to keep the temp in the combustion chamber down which leads keeping emissions down.

you can clean the EGR and intake manifold and that would get rid of the carbon deposit the EGR has left behind.

i got an EGR code when i checked the ECU for codes..does anybody have a writeup for cleaning the EGR. Does it have effect on ur gas milage? because my gas milage is around 200 miles per tank and i know this is pretty bad.

 

That was kinda my question... Ive done fuel filter, cleaned the IACV, cleaned K&N, new knock, new ngk coppers, seafoam, etc.. looking to get some info on cleaning the EGR.. I can't really find anything in the FSM about it either.

are you saying i cant take it out and clean it, i need to add an additive to some fluid and hope it cleans it?
