anyone with the flip flop and subs in the trunk notice more rattiling (spell) i wanted to do it as it looks good and cheap but i worry about it making more rattiling that my max doesnt need
evan (03on18's) sells kits to make the flip flop trunk..... and everyone whos bashing on him in here, that very very easily could of happened to anyone, hell it happened to me while just attemping to make my own flip flop trunk, so give the guy a rest its over and done with and the window was replaced. and cleanmax come on man, you 2 already had words about this **** and you just make a comment in another thread? not bashing you for it at all or trying to be an "e-thug".. just my .02
The way I did mine, I didn't use a "locking latch" to hold it in it's normal position. Instead I still use one of the 10mm bolts on each side. Realistically, you don't use the flip-flop option that often. Doing it my way allows you to keep the trunk tightly fastened so extra rattle doesn't exist.
I also didn't use screws to attach the hinges. I used rivots. It gives it a much cleaner look. (not that you really see it anyway) Then when you are at a meet/show, you just take the two 10mm bolts out with a wrench or socket. I did mine in under 30 minutes and CleanMax98's in under an hour. (we had a problem with drill bits and had to make a Home Depot run) Mine has been this way for 2 years now and it's still holding up perfectly. I'll try to do a write up doing it the erty way with pics when I'm home later.

OH SNAP! I still have a pic on my webspace!
Read my description two posts up and look at this pic. You can see where the paint scraped off the bolts I'm using fromtaking it in and out. Rivots are hard to see, but they are there. Also, I bent the hinge by screwing it down to a board and hammering it to that form. Get it? Post questions if needed.

I've since painted that black, so it blends in.

The ERTY way....
1st, I got two 3" hinges from Home Depot and formed them to fit. I did this by holding the hinge up to the support and marking where the 90 degree bend goes with a marker. I then screwed the hinge down to a board and bent it using a hammer. Then I bent the other side of the hinge slightly to fit the mold of the trunk lid. You can see this in pic #1. Also notice I had to redrill the holes on the 90 degree bent side. Pic #2 just give a full view of the hinge. Pic #3 points out that I still have the bottom 10mm bolt in place. I never took that out while installing the hinge. This made it easy to hold the trunk into place. LOL Then I used a 3/16 drill bit to drill the holes, while putting a 3/16 rivot into each hole as I drilled it. The holes in the hinge are already 3/16. After that, I did the same thing on the other side. This is basically the whole job.

Next, take out the two remaining 10mm bolts while holding the trunk lid up with your other hand. You want to be careful not to drop the lid into your back window. Once both are out, the trunk lip will swing. Notice pic #4

That's it. You're done! When you want to go back to stock mode, just put the two 10mm bolts back in and it's back to normal.

instead of ribbets on both holes on the top hinge, I put a bolt sticking out abit so the trunk doesn't go all the way down like that.... pic, notice mines is straight not facing down....(this is my old car)
Nice write up Erty, very nice. Just one thing. If you have already screwed in all the screws into the newly drilled holes on the hinges such as in Pics #3, then when you take out the 2 10mm bolts you would no longer need to worry about it falling since it is already fastened tightly correct? or no? lol that's the only part that confused me a little.
EDIT: Ay Tek, so you put a bolt in this top hole on the top hinge here in Pic 2?

I would think the top hole on the lower hinge section would be more of a bumpstop for it to sit even, but I guess not...that's a good as* idea tho.

It is secured as in the trunk lid won't fall off, but if you aren't holding it up when you take the 10mm bolts out, it will swing into the back window. The two 10mm bolts are what hold it into place when you don't want it to flip.

Do you have any exact info on the Home Depot hinges you used? I tried to find some and couldn't....was gonna try it with smaller hinges and a brace, but that just looked riced so I didn't even bother trying.

I'll try.. if you get the proper hinge and install it, you will find that when the trunk is down in a flip flop way one of the hinge holes end up right where the trunk arm meets the lid...
what i did was put a threaded rivot for a screw in that hole.. so when down you can adjust it by simply screwing the bolt in or out...
Why do you regret it? I think the look really sets it appart especially the way yours is set up. I don't think there are any cars in this state(Maine) that have a flip flop trunk. We are technologically WAAY behind the rest of the US.

too ghetto for me..... and the trunk lid won't close the same.. you have to do it to understand how it throws the lid off.... you need to install those latches or keep the oem bolts for a reason, nuff said..

Oh snap son!
