This guy said he got a Warpspeed 2.5" Stainless Steel Y-pipe PLUS a Race Pipe...Now, please excuse my ignorance but what the hell is this "Race Pipe" that he speaks of? I have never heard anyone speak about it before nor seen anyone else with a picture, but he has this:



Also, what's the whole deal with wrapping the pipe? He claimed he wrapped the whole Y-pipe, but I thought I read somewhere it was only necessary to wrap the Flex section?

 

looks like it replaces the cat (definitely not legal) but i guess thats where the "race" part comes in. wrapping the whole pipe is not necessary - it actually decreases the life of the metal. wrapping the flex is known to deaden some noise tho.

 

the racing pipe goes where the cat goes, to effectively make your car break federal law by remove emissions equipment. basically, you ditch the cat, get maybe 5hp tops, and are screwed if anyone finds out.

 

I believe the "race" pipe is more commonly referred to as a "test" pipe on this website, but I stand to be corrected. I was cautioned by more than one racing shop not to wrap the y-pipe as the wrap retains moisture/salt/dirt that could result in corrosion and premature damage to the y-pipe and flex section. Leave the exhaust wrap to professional racers as that is the end market it is intended for.
