"Brake" light won't go off...

I haven't had the chance to really look into this problem, but my brake light (for the parking brake) won't go off. I'm not sure if this is from a bad switch at the handle or if my brakes aren't completely releasing. I know that they release for the most part as the car rolls on its own when I release the parking brake but perhaps the pads are dragging. I am getting a slight hiss that varies with the speed of the car (as opposed to the engine) that I'm thinking is from my brakes. I probably should do a complete brake inspection as I bought the car in November and haven't had the brakes looked at yet. Any ideas?
