Yeah... I just looked on car-parts.com and it is slim pickings and high $$$. It's too bad, a year ago, it was pick-n-choose. I think once people realized that you could put a 2000-2001 on a 4th gen, the good ones were being scooped up.

I'm toying with the idea of buying a new one, myself. If someone could confirm that the overloaded bearing problem was fixed in 2000, I'd get one for sure.

I've been going back and forth between new or rebuilding mine myself. Choices, choices.

Is it true that you have to bend the shifter if you put a 2k-2k1 transmission in our cars? Does it fit exact with no modifications whatsoever?

Sorry to ask

again, but does anyone now if the I30 VLSD tranny (5sp) is prone to bearing problems?

Thanks
Mark

You do not have to bend the shifter. The linkage is shorter putting the shifter **** about an inch behind stock position--actually a plus if you have an STS.

I think there are too few VLSD trannies to be able to tell from people reporting in with problems. I can't recall anyone with a VLSD here saying their bearings were shot though.

Anyone know the cheapest place to get a new transmission? Sryth, there is a 5th gen transmission in the very back of the one of the classified sections here that apparently has bearing failure. It said something like the differential bearings were replaced 10K ago and now there is another problem with the trans. so maybe the problem wasn't resolved afterall. Im probably going to hunt down a used 4th gen trans and hope it doesn't happen to it too.

I don't have a STS. Im guessing you do? If not is it still easy to shift with the stock shifter or is it awkward?

Im thinking that Im gonna put a seal in and see if that stops the leak for a while. I'll drive it really really easy. The prices on junkyard transmissions are ridiculous right now. Anyone think it will break immediately? One shop seems to think that it will hold for a while.
