SHE'S ALIVE!!!! 2 days, and I figured it out my starter situation.

Here is the thread that started it all: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=398238. I began today, working on my car and ruling out different aspects of the problem I was having. (To recap, I freaked out b/c I saw a spark while removing the starter w/o disconnecting the battery; continued anyway, regreased, and put everything back: car wouldn't start, it would only "click" when the key was turned on and off). I tried all the fuses, and fusible links, and then turned to relays. I thought since my car wouldn't sound the alarm after me locking the doors, and reaching in to unlock, that the relay containing both the anti-theft/start was fried. Well, I ruled that out when I figured out the alarm had to set itself (like for 30 secs. before trying to set it off), in order to be armed. That ruled out the fuses, fusible links, and relays.
l then tore everything off for like the 4th time since yesterday morning, rebuilt the starter, reassembled, and still got the same click. So off to the junkyard I went to spend $50 on a used starter. After taking both apart, trying different individual parts of the new starter to solve the problem I was having, and in the midst, I realized that I installed the "prong" upsidedown, giving leverage for the starter's shaft going in the opposite direction that was needed. I replaced everything *correctly* with the original equipment, and it cranked right up.
So in short, after two days, and about 5-6 times tearing my starter/engine compartment apart, I got the problem fixed. The reason I didn't know which way the prong was to go, was because it fell out when disassembling the starter the first time around. Well, if you're with me here, thanks for reading, and for those who had helped me out.
Lou
