perfect painting for plastic trims help!
i want to paint some of my plastic trims in my car..im turning it into a 2 tone black/grey interior and i need som help....what is thetrick behind painting in smooth and nice?...what kind of sanding papaer (grit) do i need to use? When do i use it? is there some kind of tutorial or step-by-step process on how to paint? (is it sand surface, prime (how many times?), sand again?, Apply actual color (how many times), then clear coat and wet sand?)...when to do what..i need some kind of step by step..can anyone help me out?
What are you trying to do? Paint the dashboard? The trick behind painting smooth is using aerosol. Like an airbrush. You wont need to sand anything if you use the proper vinyl dye and clean everything with mineral sprits. If you use armor all on your car all of that will have to be stripped with mineral spirits for the dye to take.
Get an airbrush and learn how to use it

no im talking about the cover for the door handle, and the gill cover for the door where the speaker is...plastic trims...also the plastic piece where the light on the door is...thats what i mean..is there a proper way to do it?..i mean some order that i have to follow and specific grits of sandpaper that i need?
Do you know what you're talking about? No offense.
there's nothing to sand. The color of the plastic is the color of the plastic. It's not painted on. In other parts of the door panel they use vinyl sheets over some sort of a molded fiberboard. That is what the door panel is made of. If you sand the panel, the vinyl will rip and you'll have to repair it.
Tape the thing where you dont want paint. Clean the area you want to paint with mineral spirits or PPG Klean Prep and airbrush the new color on. If you mess up you can use a 200grit sandpaper and lightly sand the area down. then repaint another coat.
use a few light coats instead of one heavy coat.
I still don't know what is possessing you to do this because any new color you put on there will probably just rub off in time. But i've seen stupider things done to a car
