A/C is wonkey
now that it's getting realy hot here i want AC realy bad
im not sure if my car has it though...
when its somewhat cool outside later in the day, and i set my thermostat to 18.0, it blows cool-ish air.
when its hot and the sun is blazing and i set it to 18, it blows hot air.
i THINK my max came with AC...
in my manual it has the diagram "Heater and AC, Automatic" and it also has no AC button or whatever, but implies that it has it hence the sections title.
when defrost is turned on, and the outside temp is 35f+, it says the AC will turn on..but id rather know how to just turn the f*ing thing on
anyone know?

turn on the car, then turn it to 18 deg celcius. with recirculate. and max blower speeds. with the hood open, open up the throttle up a little. about 1500rpms. now while doing this feel the Suction Line. its on the passenger side it has a "L" on it tell us what the temperature of the line is. is should be Damp/Cool. Almost Cold. but not cold. if it is frosted over, your evap is flooded. which is caused by a clogged TXV. if the suction line is sweating, you may have a stuck open TXV. if it is Dry and Engine Temp. then you have a bad compressor.

yeah i was always sure i had AC, and that most 4th gens got it, but iv never ever realy tried to use it. im just a minimalist or something...its kindof something i could live without. but now its boiling and it would be awsome
killcrap, thx im going to go and try that out
okay just went and tried it, with the engine a bit warmed up. the temp of the line is around engine temperature and its dry like any other hose down there.
i guess my compressor is shot? that sucks
EDIT again: so i went out one more time, i actualy just hit AUTO and turned it down to 18 and it took a few seconds but it started blowing cold air, works great.
also there are two lines with "L" on them. one running left to right with a tag on it, and then one running front to back with a small "L" on a green cap. the one with the tiny green cap got nice and cold while the one with the big "L" sticker on it stayed warm.
i still find it odd that if you just turn it down to 18.0, the AC doesnt come on, only when its on AUTO setting.
WORKS GREAT, thanks for the info
