I have an SE-L with two-tone leather (with nissan emblem on seat back), sunroof, NO auto climate, and bose. I just purchased new mats from the dealership and didn't even know there were special mats for the SE-L. Damn it!

SE-L just gave you you th titanium wheel, guage, and badges. se-l floor mats and those with factory leather you will have se-l embrodering. and the option to get the car in a red color.
the dealer i bought my max from had a pretty cool showroom floor.
pathfinder, 200sx, maxima and altima all in red on the sshowroom floor.
i thought it was kind off neat.
there were both se & se-l in 99 model year.
the "limited" series off vehicles came out late in 99 model year i guess to push more cars off the lot.

every 1999 SE was an SE-L. The thing that made it an SE-L was not options or anything. Some did have a unique bronze wheel color but the SE-L was badged because Nissan knew they would be changing the design for 2000 and some dealers would have a 1999 on the lot along with the 2000 simultaneously. The 1999s actually sold better than they expected because the design of the 2000s was not very desirable. I still do not like it.
In short, the SE-L stands for SE- Limited Edition aka about to be redesigned.
