I never fully understood what exactly SE-Ls gave you over an SE. I have everything you mentioned here on my 'regular' SE (minus the cosmetic stuff). I heard that SE-Ls were only sold in Canada, is this true? If you look at the '99 Nissan Maxima Brochure, there is no mention of the SE-L. I too saw that link at cars.com. It is wrong. There are also things that are wrong with that site. For instance, they say all SEs came with LSD, they say we have 'retained accessary power' (I wish!), etc. Durring my shopping for my car, I looked at a few SE-Ls. I saw them with a variety of options (for instance, not all had auto. climate control). What I did notice was they had 2 rear seat map pockets (vs. our 1) and I think they had perferated leather. Does that sound right?

I have an SE-L with two-tone leather (with nissan emblem on seat back), sunroof, NO auto climate, and bose. I just purchased new mats from the dealership and didn't even know there were special mats for the SE-L. Damn it!

SE-L just gave you you th titanium wheel, guage, and badges. se-l floor mats and those with factory leather you will have se-l embrodering. and the option to get the car in a red color.

the dealer i bought my max from had a pretty cool showroom floor.
pathfinder, 200sx, maxima and altima all in red on the sshowroom floor.
i thought it was kind off neat.

there were both se & se-l in 99 model year.

the "limited" series off vehicles came out late in 99 model year i guess to push more cars off the lot.

every 1999 SE was an SE-L. The thing that made it an SE-L was not options or anything. Some did have a unique bronze wheel color but the SE-L was badged because Nissan knew they would be changing the design for 2000 and some dealers would have a 1999 on the lot along with the 2000 simultaneously. The 1999s actually sold better than they expected because the design of the 2000s was not very desirable. I still do not like it.

In short, the SE-L stands for SE- Limited Edition aka about to be redesigned.

The first 2 sentences are not true. I sold Nissan for 10 years. They were 2 different cars. SE and SE-L. There were both and both had different mainly cosmetic differences.

Maybe you're right. I went to buy a maxima in may of 99 and all they had were SE-Ls. This is in New York.

The GXE and GLEs were not limited. Who knows. At least you didnt flame...

I don't like to flame, it's not nice. I just like to correct where possible to help avoid someone else from getting flamed.
