NGK COPPER part number????
NGK COPPER part number????
I went around looking for new spark plugs. The platnums are too expensive. Smothers told me that the NGK Coppers dont exist. So does anyone have the part number for them?
The coppers are cheaper, but I haven't read anything definitive that suggests they are better. They are certainly more prone to corrosion and may require regapping over time. I took my OEM NGK platinum plugs out 3 weeks ago for the first time, cleaned them up on a wheel, and put them back in after 58K and 10.5 years of use. I am a low mileage user, mostly highway, and my car is not a daily driver. I suspect I would be on my 3rd set of copper plugs by now if they came with the car and the platinum plugs will probably be good for at least another 15K. My car still runs like the day I bought it.
I think the nissan part number is 22401-50y05, but check the VQpower writeup to make sure.
Rmurdoch, you would be on your second set of coppers now. Why do you say they would have to be regapped more often? Coppers won't be any better, but niether will they be any worse. I see no reason to spend six times as much for a plug that needs to be replaced half as often. I'll be spending $20 for my 60K miles rather than $60 with plats. I'd say the .5-1 hr it takes to install them is well worth the money saved...besides it's kinda fun

I'm suggesting that a low mileage user like me who only drives say 5K a year won't get 6 years out of a set of copper plugs as they would likely be corroded and won't work worth a damn. On the other hand, my NGK platinums that have been in the car for 10 years and 7 months are good to go for another 3 or 4 years. They were not corroded at all, but just required a little TLC and came up nice and shiny and the car pulls strong with no miss, no hesitation and idles bang on 650 rpm. That is how I get to being on the 3rd set of copper plugs by now. I don't think they'll perform very well after 5 years and I've proven the NGKs work well after 10 years and beyond and my fuel economy hasn't suffered one iota.
I heard no use in using platinum NGK. Copper seems the most favorite one. Both platinum and iridium will not give any gain in performance. If it does, probably not that much and really expensive. my 2c
