5spd transmission question HELP!!!

I'm in the middle of a conversion right now and the transmission sent to me looks like the metal around the input shaft has been grinded a little. You can kind of see in the pics below and it is slightly off center as well.
What could have caused this and is this transmission okay to use?

Thanks.

Pics especially around the input shaft are a bit fuzzy hard to see exaclty what your talking about.

But wear on the input shaft is a bad thing, depending on how worn down it is, you may want to take them up on that warantee.

also maybe try taking the pics of both input shafts at the same angle to help directly compair

It looks like they cut a taper onto it to make assembling the transmission to the engine easier. Since the splines are put deep into the crankshaft and don't move, I don't think it will matter a bit as long as it fits ok.

okay, i cleaned up the grease/dust and we found a small crack at the base of the metal piece around the input shaft (in the first pic, where the light reflects the most, is a thin crack going around the base of that metal piece). and you can see the very end (closest to the viewer) of that metal 'pipe' that goes around the input shaft has been worn (you can tell something was grinding against it, but we couldn't figure out what it could have been (not the cltuch or pressure plate?).

it ends up that the input shaft looks okay, but it just looks off center because the metal piece around it has a small crack at the base (like something hit it really had). This is the same metal piece that the throw-out bearing rests on. So the top is bent slightly down towards the input shaft, where it's nearly touching it, and there's a small gap on the bottom.
So I'm wondering what I should do now. I contacted the junkyard that I got this from and sent them pics, so they said they'll look at them and get back to me tomorrow. I was looking forward to putting in this AE tranny, but got really upset when I saw that it was busted. I'd to get it in asap, any suggestions/advice?

I see more what you are a talking about and I believe that will be an issue if not now then later down the line. My original tranny that was replace had wear similar to your input shaft but worse. It was more worn down in a specifc area till a thin strip was left.

At the time I was hearing very loud noises, revving was much louder than it should be, a lot of rattling sounds, and on top of it tranny oil was leaking thru that area and soaking my clutch with tranny oil.

I think it would be best to try and find another tranny instead. A worn input shaft cant be repaired it can only be replaced with another tranny. What could have the previous driver have been doing to put such damage on the shaft like that?

Ya, the thing is, the input shaft looks fine. It's the metal 'pipe' around it that the throwout bearing goes on that is getting worn and close to the input shaft. Finding another tranny right now would be near impossible (this is a 2001 AE MT). I'm thinking if i can just replace the housing that would fix the problem, since that 'pipe' is part of the housing. But I will also have to say what the parts yard tells me tomorrow after the mechanics look at the pictures I sent to them.

posts back with what you mechanics says. The situation that happened to me wasnt the worn input shaft it was the exact same worn metal your showing in your pitcures, it was just worn down much more and was very thin, the shaft itself was fine but with that worn down area was causing serious problem for me at the time, metal shavings were getting in there. so that the AE LSD tranny you have? I was told that that cant be repaired but I was told that by the dealership so I'd say get as many opinions as you can take those photos around and get advice from mechanics.

So I took the transmission into AAMCO Transmission today to have them look at it. It ends up what me and Nismo3112 thought.... The only logical fix would be to replace the clutch housing (since that grounded metal piece is a part of the clutch housing). They estimated 2 hrs labor (~$120) plus the cost of them to get the clutch housing. Now, I am also in contact with the junkyard I purchased this from and they may pay for it, if not, they just want me to ship the transmission back to them and they'll fix it, but I would much rather have a local shop fix it to save on shipping ($85).
Now I do have another question, if the clutch housing were to be replaced, would the transmission need to be reshimmed before reassembly? THank you maxima.org

Yes, I would certainly assume you need to re-shim it or at least check all shaft/gear endplays.

i've been to two transmission shops so far and they suggest that the solution would be to get a clutch housing.
