hood shocks with cf hood

Just a quick question.....I read somewhere that it is bad to use the stock hood shocks, that support the hood when it is up, on a cf hood because it is lighter. Just wanted to know if it was true cause it seemed alittle off to me.

those hood shocks hold up alot of weight if you think about it. disconnect the shocks and try to lift your hood, its heavy as hell. the shocks put out alot of presure to hold it up, now picture them on a hood 1/3 its weight the force on the shocks can literally just snap or crack through the hood since its putting out more pressure than needed to hold up the cf hood, plus the body of the hood just cant take the pressure the shocks put out, cf hood usually has a fierglass body whoch wouldnt be strong enough to maintain the pressure the shocks put out.

I disagree. Its not like the hood shocks are pushing against the hood, just holding it up. It's doing nothing diffrent than a stationary piece of wood or somthing. If you disconnect the shocks, you can open the hood a little bit more. WHen the shocks are fully extended, the hood is still able to open further.

Also, I have some worn out shocks if someone wants to buy them from me. One of them is pretty worn, and the other seems ok. They would be perfect for a CF hood.

actually the problem lies when u try to close the hood. You are pulling down the hood and it is flexible and can crack if you apply too much pressure.

what if i kept the stock shocks(not worn out) and jus connected them when i wanted the hood to stay up, then disconected them when i want to put the hood back down. I know it seems like alot of work but does anyone think this is a solution?

That could work. You would need to drill spots into the hood and fabricate some kind of quick release for them.
They way their mounted on the OEM hood is bar far no quick release.
I just use a long piece of all thread for now.
