Not much to think about. You want a 99se-L and nothing is going to get in your way.

What we say doesn't really help in this situation.

GoodLuck in your Search.

I recomend autotrader, best site I think. I found my maxima on there, but its not an SE-L.

Why not just swap out your VQ in about 40K miles and then mod the newer, lower mileage engine, instead of buying a whole new car?

Leather seats are not all that expensive if you really want them, and an interior swap has been done by many on here and I'm sure is very feesible. You can buy all of the accessories and special things of the SE-L for much cheaper than a new one, but it's still not a
true SE-L.....

Plus, you have a 98, so you can mod the ECU, unlike me and my fellow 99 'ers

I would just keep what you got, If I was in your shoes.

Those should get you started...

About the chipped key, if someone wants to steal your car, they're going to get it no matter what. you can add a hidden kill switch and it will do just as good of a job, IMO. But if you think about it, once they are in the car, damage has already been done. Might as well just have good insurance and not worry about it.

Did it ever dawn on you that 132K on a 98SE is nothing. There is another thread today where a guy has returned to the .org after an absence, having just bought a 98 Maxima with 157K on it. I've seen 4th Gens on the .org with as many as 261K on the clock. Keep your car well maintained and it should last for years to come. Personally I wouldn't buy a 99. You already have the most sought after 4th Gen there is (97 and 98). Unfortunately you don't have leather but big deal.

Selling you car and buying one can be a big hassle. No matter how low the miles may be, you can't be really sure what you are getting and what issues it may have. Not worth it just for a car that's one year newer. Switching to a 5th gen is a different story. You say you car runs well, I would just keep it running well. Good luck!

I sold my 96 with 126K on the clock for a 99 SEL with half that...there was no perceptible difference in the "tightness" of the car...steering, squeeks, rattles, clunks etc.. Ride and roll stiffness were different as a result of different wheel/tire and strut tuning I'm sure, but my old car was not sloppy by any means. We even lined then up and ran a couple to about 80...a dead heat....both bone stock.

Bottom line.....131K is nothing....corrosion becomes your worst enemy in my state (Wisconsin). I think the 97-99 years of the max were some of the best ever built after owning a 95, 96 and 99. If you have a lot of confidence in it, and have taken care of it, high mileage shouldn't bug you a bit.

As for that 99 chip key....don't drop it or loose it....they break easy and cost $100 a piece. Any accomplished thief won't be scared off by that. Also, the insurance on my 99 SE-L is 50% more than it was on my 96....why? Its expensive to replace side air bags, heated mirrors, active suspension struts etc...or so I was told.

You're right. Every car i have bought has had problems to be fixed right away to pass emissions, or just things that the previous owner overlooked. I suppose if you spend enough at a dealer, that can be avoided, but it's still a consideration.

I think you'll spend way less to put in the leather interior that you want.

Right on. 132k miles is seriously not much for a VQ. I bought my car with 141k on it, and I hesitated to modify it, not knowing if it was worth it to mod a car with so many miles. Now at 208k miles and running strong, I wish I had started sooner!

Don't worry about the milage. If it's been taken care of, you have little to worry about. A well cared for VQ is easily a 300k mile engine.

As one who has a low mileage 99 SEL (37.5k), I will give my opinion.

I love my car, but if I were you I wouldn't do it. You have a great car that runs well is probably paid off so why swap for a one year improvement? If you're worried about the mileage why not search for a lower mileage 98 with leather?

As far as the chipped key goes, why not just buy an aftermarket system if theft has you losing sleep? Viper?

As with all 99's, make sure they're replaced the coils with non-99 versions.
