hey gurus,
when i apply the brake a little bit i hear a clicking sound. i press the brake pedal about 1-2 inches down and i can hear the clicking,when im going like 20 miles an hour. if im going faster and i press on the brake that much,i wont hear it until i slow down a bit,then i can hear it. it seems like the slower i go,and pressing on the brake slightly,the slower the clicking gets.
any ideas of what this could be?thanks

clicking noise could be the cv joint. there's a writeup in the FAQ's that shows you how to diagnose a bad cv

but its not constantly making the sound.only when i apply light pressure on the brakes,and its heard when im going low speed. with brakes applied lightly,the slower i go,the longer the pause in between the clicks.
cv joints recently replaced.

when was the last time you checked out your brakes and rotors?
try to see if your brake lines are intact to where they are supposed to be.

i checked my brakes the other day.the rotors and pads have lots of meat left.what do you mean by checking the brake lines and where they suppose to be? if they were in the wrong spot,then wouldn't the line have snapped from me turning?thanks and any other ideas guys?

Could be that your brackets that hold the pad could be worn. Or your rotors are severely warped. Does your brakes pulsate when you press them?

You sure it's not your brake pedal making contact with the little pressure switch underneath the dash? Theres a little pressure pad that when pressed activates the brake lights, the "click" you could be hearning could be that switch clicking on and then off.

I'm having similar problems too. Its more of a slight rubbing than clicking though. Only when brakes applied or when driving close to a curb without braking, i can hear it slightly. Thinking it maybe a pebble or sumin stuck back there.

Usually a clicking is the CV joint, when you turn and accelerate during making a turn from a dead stop does it click or just when your braking? Have you had anyone drive slow and apply the brakes while you stand outside real close to the wheels to see/hear where it's coming from. Otherwise it sounds like what was mentioned about the brake light switch.

Check your caliper, it might be loose. Or you might have a loose component on your brakes. Take off your wheels and inspect them thoroughly. I wouldnt suggest driving until you find the problem.

If the caliper is loose or if the brake pads are not fitted properly they will make a clicking noise. To check for this condition inspect the brake caliper mounting bolts and brake pad mounting. The brake pads should not move vertically. If so the brake pad shims could have fallen out or the wrong brake pads are installed.

what could happen if it is the cv joints and you do not address the issue of replace or regreasing them????

If its CV Joints it should be replaced. Any component that deals with steering should always be replaced new, used is risky and its not guaranteed to last for a long time.

If his caliper(s) had seized then when he his driving there would a lot of stress on that rotor. And its easy to tell especially when you're driving if you let go of the gas and your car is stopping quickly without pressing the brake pedal. He either has a loose caliper or the shims are not on the pad itself, or maybe the pad is loose in the caliper bracket, or they were out on wrong. There are many possibilities and its not easy to diagnose over the internet. Have to hear the sound in order to determine the exact problem.

It's strange that I have a mild single click sound when I press down the brake midway for about 4 months and it's now went gone. I am sure it will come back. Thanks for trying to help folks. I hate problems like this that is difficult to diagnose.

K-Ryder, I have a ~9K miles old front Nissan brake pads, Nissan brake kit and Napa rotors. All nuts and bolts were torque to manual spec. I don't feel any vibration when I step on the brake at any speed. I will check on the brakes soon.

RustyMax, yep I hear that click. The strange thing is, there is another mild click after that when I step on the brake midway in the front driver left side.
