cv axle play and bearing failiure?
My friend is thinking of getting a 95 SE 5 speed. There is a little sweating around the back of the tranny case (reverse light switch or something?), but besides that no visible leaks. I've heard horrible things about the differential bearing failure, and I would like to know how much play is too much in the half shafts.
Im both my 96 max and the 95 max we looked at, there is small but noticeable play in the axle when cold(drivers side). This is maybe 1-2 mm total. When car is warm there is no play at all in shaft on my car, but I didn't get to check the other. How much play is normal? should there be noticeable play at all?
my car has also begun to leak at the driver side seal...but we hope this is due to a tear from when boots were changed.
I just don't want my friend to get a lemon. We would likely do the transmission repair ourselves...but it would not be fun...at all...and his parents would be pissed that I recommended the maxima

for the play in shaft I cant exactly say but that sweat that you guys see should be checked out immediately, it could leaking omre internally and now its slowly starting to seep outward dont ignore that it would be an expensive mistake (if you purchase it).
If you guys dont have the owner reduce the price to compensate for tranny repair then find another maxima cause it will cost some money for the rebuild. The leak around the drive side could be a broken seal in need of replacing, would have to take out the axle to replace the seal, plus get an alignment.
