Tranny stays in neutral after brake

I am having a problem with the auto tranny. It's been about 1-2 months. Whenever I make a mid-hard brake to stop, tranny stays in neutral for like 3-5 seconds before it kicks into a gear again. The rev goes to about 1300-1500. I have to switch to N after I make a quick stop and switch to D in order to move immediately.

Any idea?

MY max is 95 GLE with 220k miles on her. Is the tranny going or just small issues I can fix without breaking my wallet?

Thanks,

Jeff

Yeah, my max is still with the original tranny. All the work I've ever done with the tranny is to change fluid every 40k miles.

Check the fluid level, also make sure the pickup screen is clean.

My tranny is going? That's sad.
I checked the ATF level. After the car sits there overnight, the level is a little higher than the HIGH mark. If I check the level right after driving around, the level is well below LOW mark. Is that normal? What's the appropiate time to check the ATF level?

Thanks,

Jeff
