First off.....it cost $170.00 dollars for a little round piece of solid metal with a hole in the middle. What a rip off!! Then, I look at the Haynes manual and it says to take off the upper and lower intake manifolds. My other option is to jam my hand in the engine "V" and try and get it. Well, my hands look like I got into a fight with a rabid cat. I elected not to take off the manifolds and decided to enlist the help of my wife whos hand easily fits into the limited space. For anyone who is interested the bolt is 12mm. I tried a 10mm socket, then dropped an 11 down by the starter and finally figured out the bolt is a 12.

Once the thing is unscrewed it took 30 seconds to swap the old with the new and then I had to re-install it. Once finished I wiped the blood off the engine and started her up. What a pain in the a$$. I can't imagine how much the dealer or a shop would have charged to install this thing.

I have the O2 sensor I need on order. Once that comes in to the parts store my SES light should go out. I hope this new KS lasts even longer then the original. It had 163,520 when I did the switch.

To anyone who is about to replace their KS.....good luck and try to wear a pair of gloves

Yeah the install is a PITA. Took me almost 2 hours to swap mine out. I hate having big hands...

 

I'm surprised you didn't at least attempt the easy way using a 12mm wobbly socket on a long extension. Once I got it set up right, it was about 30" worth of work, and no hands anywhere.

The car runs better. I will check my mpg this tank and see if it goes up but there is a noticeable positive improvement in performance.

 

Used u-jount + extentions and was able to get the ratchet onto (for both loosening and tightening) the bolt with no hands inside the engine ... girlfriend with tiny hands was easily able to get in there and seat the new one and start the bolt; no blood and only a few minutes once we figured out how to do it!

Always get the right tools! It would have been a less PITA job.
