Why would odometer stop working?

Odometer and trip mileage stopped working in my uncle's '95. Everything else in the cluster is working properly. Is there a way to fix it or just easier to replace the cluster? Thanks for the help.

Try taking out the cluster then speedometer, and resurface the metal contact thingy printed on plastic back panel of the cluster and re-tighten the speedometer real well back to place. Some people fixed similar problems by doing this (I'm one of them). Not sure it works for you but it doesn't cost you anything. I suppose it's not a VSS because you didn't indicate that the entire speedometer or cruise control stopped working...

I'll have to try that. What exactly is VSS anyways?

Sorry it's a Vehicle Speed Sensor. I used to pull the code for this but couldn't make the code disappear even after replaceing a VSS, but finally fixed doing the above.
