key cylinder and starter help please.

key cylinder

can the ignition cyclinder(key goes into) be seperated from the igniton plug section(connected to ignition cylinder)? i went to get an alarm put in and the installer told me that the ignition plug is bad. so i want to get one from a junkyard and take it apart to use the junkyards ignition plug section,so i can reuse my own ignition cylinder(so i dont have to recalibrate my keys).

starter

so i found out today my started has a 10 gauge power wire ran from the starter to under the dash.anyone know why the previous owner did that? if i get another starter, can i just remove that 10 gauge wire? my car is currently having slight difficulty startin every once in a while.

any help and info would be great.thanks
