Tie Rod end going

So I jacked up the car today, and found some play on the driver side wheel. When I drive I can hear a sound (thump thump thump) at all speeds above 10mph. Anyways I put my hands and 9 and 3 oclock, and moved the wheel in and out. There was a little play.

Now my question is, how can I check if it is the outer tie rod end, or inner tie rod end? Can it be anything else other than the Tie rod?

Take the wheel off and visually inspect the tie rod.

Play in the wheel could also be due to a bad wheel bearing.
