Need quick help! Tips on removing stuck oil filter.

Yea it sounds stupid but the last time the oil was changed was by a quick oil change place due to the frigid temperatures outside; and I can't get the thing off for the life of me!

Putting all my might into this thing and it isn't budging, have one of those crappy oil filter wrenches (wrap around and tighten noose type) and that is just slipping.

Any advice/tips on removing very tough oil filters... quick responses greatly appreciated!

Put a big screwdriver through it, and just use that to twist it off:

Above suggestion will work for an emergency but sometimes you can shred an oil filter too...

Go invest in a "socket" style oil filter wrench that fits over the end of the oil filter...

I figured he was mid-way through his oil-change since he said it wouldn't budge.

That worked, thanks .. although now my street has some oil spots (oops) and got some oil in my bloodstream (didn't realise the screwdriver went through the otherside and when i put my hand on it the sharp edges that protruded out from the filters gave me a little cut.)

I will look into that type of an oil wrench, but since my car has only half its spark plugs changed and no oil that wasn't an option at the moment

thanks

You mean you haven't been running with just 3 plugs to get better MPG like the rest of us?

Glad you got that sorted out. Hopefully you didn't overtighten the filter - the shops tighten it like its holding the car together.
