Okay I re-greased my started to get rid of the nose just like you, and yes I had the same problems using that guide off that site lol

Here we go:

1) the device you circled is only the motor of the starter and has nothing to do with removing the starter (lol I know the picks off motorvate look like they are pointing to that but they are wrong / off)

2) The thing circled in red is your started not just that black part, the two yellow circles are the bolts you will have to take off to get the starter out.

First bolt) the yellow circled one closest to the top is easy to take out but you will have to remove the bracket that hold the hoses in place (pain in the as*) from you pics it looks like you pulled / pushed the hoses out of the way but you gota get that bracket out or your wrench wont be able to get the bolt out (this bolts have 35 pounds of pressure so should not be to hard but not to easy)
Second Bolt) the yellow circled one on the right hand side of the pic, this is a BIT*H! 75 pounds of pressure I was ready to break my car fighting with this bold, you will need some real muscle power to loosen this bolt, I picked up one of those 2 foot long wrenches to get the leverage I needed and still had to put most of my power to remove it, not a chance in hell you will get that bolt off with a normal size socket wrench.
3) once those 2 bolts are off that’s it the full started should come right out, you will have to disconnect the cable that powers the motor, I could not figure out how to un hook it so unfortunately had to brake the small hooks that held it to the bracket. Nothing a little glue wont fix lol

After that you should have the starter in hand and taking it apart is not too hard @ all, wipe down the old greases put the new grease and put it back together…. (steps 1 & 2 in reverse)

Worked perfect for me, did that about 2 weeks ago and have never herd the sound since.

Good luck

wow - i dunno apeg. that 2nd bolt seems near impossible like you said. i have a big wrench that would help but no extension to reach the bolt with. i may just live w/ the noise cause i dont know how im going to get that out. thanks for your help.

np, ya that second bolt was VERY hard, like i said i had a 2 foot wrench and an extention so that the range of motion would clear the starter, try drowing the bolt with WD 40 and let it sit for about 30min, then give it all you got.

Use a 6 point 1/2" drive socket with a breaker bar, not a wrench.

ok so i kinda gave up on fixing the starter bc there wasnt a snowball's chance in hell i was going to get that second bolt out. ive got a huge wrench for it but no extenstion to get at it . so while everything was apart i decided id clean the throttle body. well it looked brand new on the inside - is there a way i can get to the other side of that of the valve or is that necessary?

I used a deep socket for the wrench and a 2-3' pipe to go over the wrench handle.

That should give you enough leverage to break that loose.

I think the sizes needed are 12mm and 17mm for the sockets.
