Bypassing the heater core

Anybody ever done this before?? In the process of replacing my dad's motor on his '95 i damaged the 2 coolant tubes that go into the firewall behind the motor. They were so brittle it didn't take much to cause them to fall apart. To my understanding, those tubes go to and from the heater core. The tubes are so short now that i can't use the hose clamps to make a seal. My questions are how is it possible to temporarily bypass the heater core and can i replace those tubes without removing it?? Thanks in advance.

I would think that you could just run one hose to the inlet, on the engine, of the other hose.Sort of like making a loop. As for the tube going into the fire wall just plug them with some tape.
