And I think it looks really good, although I think many of you will think they are too light. I got Llumar tint with 50% in the front (due to not wanting to break cali law by that much), 35% on the rear windows and, 20% on the very back. I went with the lighter shades because I don't like real black tint on a dark green car. I will post pics once it gets better looking outside, at least enough for me to take pics.

Good choice... IMHO I think it looks 'classier' with light to medium tint... even though I coulda went with dark tint with my beige interior...

I agree with you Chunger, I think the levels I got make it look classy, and doesn't really bring too much attention, but I hope people who look at it think that it looks nice.

Yeah, I also have beige interior, but it would still be too dark IMO if I went 5% all around or even 20% all around. . . I also really like the black color that Llumar has, as no other color is visable. The owner of the shop has a white Maxima with the same tint levels and I really liked how it looks and was very happy with how it matches the color of my car. Also I still can see out of my car at night without difficulty which is what I wanted.

tinting question...

is a medium tint, somewhere around 35% all around, legal in CA? i live in the bay area and i was curious about a) where i could find a website that lists all of the driving laws and b) how much the fine would be for a tint around 35%.

thanks

From what I was told by the people who did my tint, only 84% is allowed on the front windows, this is allowed light that passes through. You can have whatever you want on the rear windows though. I went for 50% as they said I shouldn't have any problems with it, as they have it on all their vehicles and have never had any problems with it for the 7+ years they have had it on. Technically it is illegal, but it is still light enough that you can see the front passengers with no problem whatsoever, and I am assuming that is what they are worried about.

I couldn't find the actual law reguarding tinting, and believe me I looked. . . But I am sure your local police department would be able to tell you the laws reguarding tinting in your town, as some are different than Cali law. But here is a link that lists tinting laws in each state, but I don't know how accurate it is.

http://www.angelfire.com/nd/tint/laws.html

I have heard many things about cost of the fine, but around $70 is the average, I think it is actually a fix-it ticket, although each county can fine whatever they want, there is no set price.

So ballpark figure...how much does it cost to get windows tinted? I assume it gets more expensive the darker you go? What do the % mean? Thanks!

I got my car tinted last summer for $160 including a lifetime warranty. I got 35% in the back and 50% up front so I would conform to VA law but Im kicking myself for not going darker.

I think even legal tint makes the car look a lot better but I think 35/50 is too light. I was thinking about going 35 all around, but the difference between the too isnt worth it. I thought about going to 20% but then Im afraid Ill get a ticket for it, people say it never happens, but I see it all the time...Screaminfast's post as an example.

I paid a little more for mine, but I knew the shop did really good work, and I would rather have it done right the first time, mine was $185 for all windows. This would have been that price no matter what I chose though. I don't think that film is that much different in price, it is mainly labor you are paying for.

I think they retailed for about $650-700 each in my size... but they are now discontinued by Lowenhart... It was one of their first rims... Same company (SSR) that makes Racing Hart, Sprint Hart...

Here's 35% Llumar on a Sunlit Sand Max. The legal limit is 35% in Hawaii.
