Seatbelt sensor?

My seatbelt indicator doesn't come on anymore, that is, whether I have the seatbelt on or not I get no indication. Ever so often, it decides to work and surprises me when it lights up.
Is there a sensor somewhere that can be fixed?
It doesn't bother me that much, as I always use the seatbelt anyway (just doesn't feel right without it), but I just like to have everything working right in the car.

yea i would look into that, i dont know how the srs system on the maxima works, but on other cars, if your seatbelt switch isnt working, and you get into an accident, the airbags wont work.

Crap! Now that I didn't know. I'll be driving all paranoid now...
I'll have to look at it ASAP then, I simply assumed it was a "warning" feature (like the doors open signal), I didn't think it could have airbag implications.
Does anyone know for sure if on the max they are in fact linked?

thanks for the heads up,

It depends on what type of car you have...the seatbelt warning is there for a "nag" purpose, rather than as a complete system. The airbags , and feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, are independent of the seat belts in 4th gen maximas. If your light is out, your airbags will still work. The airbag defeat system is only on cars equipped with second-generation airbags, ones with two-stage deployment for child safety. These bags also have a seat sensor for detecting children .
So don't fret if your light is out. Chances are you won't need the airbag anyways as long as you buckle up.

Thanks man, that makes alot of sense.
I'll give an update if I'm ever able to fix it up.

No prob. Don't worry about it,since chances are, you've got more importaint things to do with you car than worry about a "mommy light". The wire is under the seat, which means you have to go through a LOT of effort just to fix a light that, if you use your seatbelt, isn't much use anyways? As long as you buckle up,who cares about a light?

I buckle up EVERY TIME, and so does anyone who rides with me.
