i had the same code.
i bought the evap canister control valve and the evap charcoal canister...its easier to replace both at the same time. from what i remember it was like 70 bucks total for both parts. takes like 20 mins to do
raise the driver rear wheel up its behind it. all u need to do is remove some clamps for hoses and a few bolts...

I had that same issue with my 97 SE. I was getting the same codes, 0705 and 0214. My mechanic changed the purge solenoid and the vacuum cut valve for $217. After 3 days the CEL lit up again with the 0705 code again. I got pissed and told him to keep the car until he fixed it, he eventually had to change the evap vent control valve which cost $123. But he gave it to me free for all my trouble. It seems that the OBD II system runs in a continuos loop setup and anywhere along that loop if something fails you have to check each part til you find the right one thats broke.

What code, there are a bunch of EVAP codes that all basically say the same thing... but there's two different locations of parts of the EVAP system (some behind rear driverside wheel and some right by the throttle body.)

Just replaced all my hoses in the engine bay dealing with EVAP hoping it was an air leak. Codes haven't come back on yet, been a week so far... knock on wood.

Is it necessary to get the evap charcoal canister too or can i just replace the canister control valve?

i guess sometimes the control valve is stuck onto the canister...so rather than pry it off and break it....i just replaced both...
over time the canister gets filled with fuel anyway...so why not replace it
