Brake Pad Shims Missing!

Just replaced the front pads. I discovered that the old pads had shims rivetted to the worn pads. The new pads I bought, from Autozone, didn't come with shims. Because I was running out of daylight last nite and I don't have any other means to go back to Autozone to get shims, I went ahead and put the new pads in. I did put this red liquid anti-squeek on the pads before installing them.

Driving with the new pads this morning, my brakes make a little bit of noise when I apply the brakes. It also makes kinda like a mild grinding sound, but not the same sound as a badly worn down pad would make against the brake rotor. Still its annoying.

I have never bought brake shims alone before, I don't even know if they sell them separately. What alternatives would you all suggest?

Thanks.

shims wont make to much of a difference. unless you really want to have shims you could go back to autozone and pick up some new pads but otherwise id just put the ones you have now on. just make sure you put on some anti-squeak and youll be fine.

The pads fit, so I'm assuming its the right one. I did put that anti-squeek stuff and it still squeeks.

umm ...

the anti-squeel is supposed to go on the back of the brake pads and under the shims ... sorta like a glue.

I know nadir but the shims where missing from the old pads. The old pads came with shims rivetted onto the back of the pads. The guy must have thrown away the factory shims.

I think i know what I'm gonna do, go back to Autozone and try to get my shims.

I'll give a few days then. The pedal feels nice and stiff but stopping takes a bit of an effort right now. Somehow it doesn't grab like before. I do have a faint grinding noise but looking from the rotors, I didn't see any grooves that could have been caused by that.
