Auto Shift Knob question....

Auto Shift **** question....
I was wondering, is it true that if you take off your stock auto shifter that it cant be put back on. And if I wanted it back on I would have to buy a whole new shifter assembly? Also would an aftermarket shift **** that claims to fit shifter stem diameters from 5/16" to 9/16" (8mm -15mm) fit on my car? I just want to know before i purchase anything
Thanks in advance!!!!

Nah I pretty sure it goes back no worries...
About month ago there were heaps of threads on custom Autoshifters, or chopping the stock one down to reduce height.... try going back about 20+ odd pages should be a whole lot there..
