Subs on a stock Bose.

So I finally went on got myself some subs for the my max. I kept the stock Bose head unit..just because I guess its a bose. I used the line converter so get the RCAs for the amp. Im running a 500w Bazooka amp and 1 Polk 12" and 1 Rockford".

I must say...the bass does not hit right at all, and I need a way to fix it.

Thinking it may be the subs I just ordered 2 brand new pioneers, which will improve the sound quality, but still I have a feeling that it still wont sound just right.

Has anyone ever done this before? and have you ever had any problems?

im using subs on my stock bose, i just tapped into the rear speakers for the subs, my subs sounds great....and also no reduction in sounds in the rear speakers because i tapped a positive from the left and a negative from the right so everything would be equal.

the bose head unit puts out a signal that is low level already; so you do not need a converter. Just wire two RCA's to each speaker side, left & right channel and plug it in the RCA jacks on the amp(s). I've been using it that way for a few months and it sounds fine.

I added a amp & kicker sub to my bose and it sounds awesome. I didn't use a converter I tapped in the line inputs of each rear speaker and spliced RCA into them then ran it to the amp. Just keep the gain down low cause the volatge is higher than normal.I'm also in NY Queens. Your welcome to stop by and check it out.

First of all wrong forum. Second, where did you tap in? Im assuming you are using the rear speakers, but did you tap in before or after the amp?

dude u might as well just buy a headunit because believe me if u think it doesnt sound "right" on the bose well u can customize the sound to however u want on a good headunit...get like a alpine or eclipse those are real good

I have had diffrent head units in my other car. This time I wanna keep the car looking stock. The system does sound good...but what im saying is, it doesnt hit right. Certain times it will on the bass drum...other times it will only pick up the bass guitar. In simple terms...

Sometimes it goes BUM BUM BUM....other it goes BUUUUUUUUUUM

Im assuming everyone that had recomended the line converter never actually had one. Again, if you have done it this way, please let me know if you have experianced a problem. As I had said before it could be the subs...this is why I ordered new ones, the ones that I have are mismatched and may not be the right wattage for what im running.

im not sure but i was told something like this...because i tapped into my rear deck speakers, im getting a mid range signal and that i should tap into the front tweeters to get a better sound? i would think either this, or that i should splice right into the back of the Bose HU.

my system sounds fine and it hits good, i got a bridgable amp with the hi/lo converter and wired it all into the rear deck speakers. ultra simple and it does what i want, maybe needs more power but i wanted to do it quick and cheap.
ill upgrade later after a bunch of other things

only thing that bugs me with the stock HU is that its got a build in compressor and when you have it low the bass is hitting good, and when you turn it up the bass levels out and gets more quiet in contrast to the mid sounds.

also sometimes when youre playing a burned CD it can mess with your music and qualities of instruments will change. i notice with mine theyre not as crisp sounding burned because of high end loss thru mp3 etc, on a computer you wouldnt notice but in your car, for sure.
what are the specs on your amp? wattage is crucial maybe youre not set up properly in that area. im thinking your subs are fine because they sound beter than mine ^^

i use a hi/lo converter on my subs, sounds great, i had it rumbling before sometimes but it was because something was loose, thats all.

^^

Is there anyway to adjust/remove this compressor?

As I said before I am running a Bazooka 500w with a Polk 12" and a Rockford 12". I ordered two Pioneer 12" this way they match and will hit better with the amp.

i dont think you can remove it, pretty sure its there with the Bose HU. buying a diffrent HU is the only way ive heard of.
i kept mine in because it looks stock and way more clean than putting the cheap looking plastic bracket in. not realy for the sound

i am tapped....line convertor....stock bose....u just need an amp powerful enough and subs that can take it.....since u can really use the BASS adjustment on the radio because it will distort the rest of the speakers a really good amp and subs are a must.....me personally i use a power acoustik 1200 watt amp(so they say) and 2 polk 10" dx series subs....amp in at about 1/2 maybe 3/4 gain and the crossover is finely tuned so to me it sounds great and its loud....personally there are way better amps i could have used but i got that one from by brother for free cause i let him keep my MTX mono amp<----awesome and panasonic headunit in my 96 maxima that i sold him

i'm using a line out converter with my stock bose, it sounds great. I have a kenwood 1000w amp with 2 12" sony xplods. The first day I had my system it sounded like total garbage, but make sure the bass level on the HU is at a tolerable level (about medium) and just tune the bass from the amp itself. I rechecked all my connections, and my system sounded alot better, not to mention looked alot better with my trunk cleaned up.

I got a quick Q aside from your dilemma. I was replacing my rear speakers on my non-bose sytem and when I lifted the deck, I saw what it looks like a extra line for a speaker with the connector on the tip and it wasn't connected to anything. Any ideas on what it was? I don't know jack about audio/electrical and I just thought it was a line for a woofer if I ever get one.. lol.. please enlighten me.

So how should I go about adjusting my amp for the best sound? I understand what you mean by turning down the gain but which one should it be? I have three controls on the amp....
1. Level (this would be the volume)
2. Crossover
3. Bass boost

Thanks

level is your voltage coming in. keep it kinda down seeing as that the levels from the bose system are high themselves.

When I turn down the level it acts as a volume, when its down, theres no noise. What would be the "gain"?

when i put mine in i just put everything to medium and if there was too much or not enough of something i would tweak it a bit untill it sounded good. if you dont over do it then i think youd be safe just messing with thoes settings

I got my new Pioneers today. I had a little bit of improvement, but not much. Also when I turned the radio off...the subs buzzed, uncontrollably. I had to turn the level completely down. Now its about mid way. It was originally slightly over mid. Any other ideas of how to improve my sound?

That would be too simple!

I have a JLw6v2 / MTX D-Class amp, everything else is stock from 1997 and sounds great. Almost as loud as (2) w3 12" in my old civic, and better SQ.

ok. make sure all of your connections are tight and the ground is properly hooked up. even if you think it's fine, re-tighten it. Also, the "gain" is the level if that was a question.

if you have that hi/lo converter hooked up, unhook it. Go to radio shack, get yourself an RCA pair of 10ft cable, cut off the two jacks on one end and wire those directly to the speakers on the deck IN FRONT of those little factory amps. There should be 4 wires to each speaker; red = hot, black = ground, and two speaker wires. Here is the wiring info on the rears:

Left Rear (+) Red
Left Rear (-) Green
Right Rear (+) Blue
Right Rear (-) Pink

Then of course hook up the other end of the cable (w/the RCA's) to your sub amp. Keep the bass low to start off with on the deck and work your way up adjusting the gain (level).

Hope this helps man. Good luck.
