I tried to be gentle with mine, and I didnt break anything...it was a little nerve racking at first but not nearly as hard as I thought it might be. They aren't perfectly lined up anymore but they're not off by much (e.g. my speedometer is off by about 2 mph).
There should be directions to follow online..out of the 2 styles of needles, we have the kind that you need to very gently pull up on as you twist them backwards (at least my 96 did). If you just try and pop them off you'll break your guages for sure.

lol...removle..sorry im a stickler for spelling. Removal**.
Don't remove the needles, 99.9% of everyone who has done this has messed them up, and its practically impossible to get them lined up perfectly again.. just clear them and put a different color LED behind them, and be done with it. just a suggestion.

Step 9: Now is where **** gets crazy. You will need to strip the blue backing of the faceplate in order to make the light really shine through. In order to do this we will have to remove the faceplate (*duh*). START BY CALIBRATING THE NEEDLES. THIS MUST BE DONE!!!! To calibrate, do the following:
(i) Place your key in the ignition and hold in the odometer button.
(ii) Turn the electrical system on while holding the button in.
(iii) Release the button and wait one second.
(iv) Press the button three times. On the third press, HOLD THE BUTTON IN. If the digital readout reads '8' across the board, you are in luck. Otherwise, remove the key and repeat STEPS 9i - 9iii.
(v) You are now in calibration mode. Record where the needles lie. You can hold the button in for as long as you wish to take measurements.
