Is the noise coming from the left or right side of the engine bay?

Left (driver side) - probably the starter - it would only make the sound (Eeerrrrr) after sitting for several hours. Regrease or replace.

Right (passenger side) - probably a loose belt - it would make the sound (Eeeeeee) whenever it's humid out. You can try spraying some water on the belt while the car is idling to see if it makes the sound. Should be pretty cheap for a mechanic to tighten the tension or DIY.

Tomorrow morning, get yourself a spray can of Belt Dressing and spray the inside of all your drive belts (according to the directions on the can).

If the noise disappears, then the problem was with your belts being cracked or frayed, or possibly the bearings on a tensioner are shot and the tensioner needs to be replaced.

If it is on the right side, it could be the alternator. There was a problem with a certain "run" of them. Mine was not in the known group, but it had the same symptoms just over a year ago. Replaced the starter and it has been noiseless ever since.
