Who lowered your cars? how much $ we talkin?
[If you know of a thread with answers to my questions, send me a link I'll delete this one immediately. Don't wanna overburden the org with redundant threads.]
Who did you low-down guys get to lower your rides? How much should I expect to pay? I don't want mine on the ground, but you know, the gap needs to be lessened maybe one or two inches. Two inches...or three. I'm trying to get an idea of how much money I'd be out of for shocks or struts and springs and what I'd need to buy. I won't be racing, not officially. Just want the look. I'd like it to ride only as harsh as necessary not to bottom out.
Thanks guys.

It's so easy to do it on these cars... just do it yourself.... it will save you alot of money... not to mention I hate dealing with most mechanics... SPECIALLY when you're trying to put aftermarket/performance parts on....

Haven't bought it yet, but planning on:
Illuminas: $408
Tein S-Techs: $140
Dustboots/Bumpstops: $40
Long travel rear struts: $75
Total: $663
Does anyone see where this price can be reduced? Are the Illuminas worth the extra $150 over the KYB-AGX's? Also, could I live without the long travel rear struts?

Thanks for the responses. I had no idea that decent shocks and springs could be bought and installed for under a grand. I'm going to try to get some wheels and then see what I can do about shocks in the comings months. I've read enough to know that I should not do the reverse.

So, bijangxe, who does your work? You? Or do you want to keep it a secret or something. I live in College Park. I'm wanting to get a Y-pipe and cattback and a new intake in the future. Once I get some new wheels and see how they look and what I'm working with, then I'm thinking about dropping a couple inches. Maybe next year when I'm finally through paying for my car. Hopefully nothing starts failing on me then. Murphy's Law, right? Anyway, even more immediately than any of that, I'm going to need pads. Who can you recommend that won't fleece me?

This sucks..
After reading all of what most people paid, I paid soo much more
New -Illumina = 408
New- H&R’s = 200
Rancho Dustboots = 40
ES suspension = can’t remember ~60
Install shocks – 150
Install ES = 150
Total cost = 1008.00
And now I want to go take it apart to install new bumpstop and replace the rancho with KYB dustboots
$$$ ? I get squeaking when going over little bumps, and big ones totally hurt.

Man don't even sweat that. The way I always look at it when that happens to me is I would not have had the pleasure of whatever I bought for the extended length of time it would have taken to find the better deal; i.e., not having to wait is worth the money. That's just what I tell myself, now.

You could be really cheap and just get springs (used Intrax springs $150) .....at the cost of killing your shocks/struts (over the course of a couple of years)
Personally, I went with the Progress Technology Coilovers. $1k. Installation-free. I wanted the ability to dial in the ride hieght to exactly what I want. I hate it when the gap in the front doesn't match the gap in the rear. Drives me nuts!!
Plus, as I shed weight (or add weight as in did with the supercharger -48lbs worth of equipment) I want to be able to maintain my stance.

You need updated picture from your car, in that picture your max still looks like a 4x4.....

I'm PLANNING on going w/ Tein S-Techs ~$140 shiped (ebay) and KYB AGX ~$360 shipped (ebay) and KYB Dustboots/bumpstops. My question to all you AGX buyers, how did you get them for 250, 300, 330, so cheap? Also, whats the cheapest place for the KYB Dustboots/bumpstops?? I'll be lowering soon when I get the rest of the cash, I'm almost there.

u need the spring compressor the the fronts...the backs u can get away withour using them....all 4 are spring over strut so its impossible to use a jack....all u need is a set of metric sockets up 21mm for lug nuts...or 22mm if u have the lug nuts for ur upper front strut nuts
BUT AIR TOOLS HELP ALOT *bling bling*

You only need spring compressors if you are changing the springs but using the stock shocks/struts. Otherwise, it comes out as a complete assembly.
Only basic tools are required if changing out entire suspension (An extra socket/tools are required if only changing springs and a lot more time consuming)
IIRC, you'll need:
Jack(s) I prefer two-one on each side.
Jack stand(s) (for safety)
17 mm deep socket
22 mm socket
19 mm deep socket
12 mm deep socket
10 mm socket
Ratchet
Breaker bar
Pliers/flat head screw driver to remove brake line from struts
A friend to help you, but it's not necessary.
Oh, and liquid blaster couldn't hurt either.
A Haynes/FSM/Chilton for torque specs, or ask us/me for the numbers.
spring compressors (free rental at Autozone, Kragen etc)
Overall, the job is extremely easy. Do it yourself, save some money, and feel some self gratification.

i remember that whole dispute on performance peddler matching prices for the Illuminas with that other site? not sure what it was, but it was confusing and only save about $30 or so. is there anywhere cheaper than $408 shipped? because performance peddler doesn't have the rears in stock and those will be another 2-3 weeks, or so Brad told me. So a price that is close to $400 just so that i could order then ASAP where they are in stock would be great. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!!
